Before “Before”

We have been reading and writing since before “before”.

I didn’t used to see what you were saying, not because you lacked the words.

I just couldn’t hear them.

Since then, I’ve learned to listen. Lost some cognition, but somehow, i “know”.

I had to lose it all to taste the truth on the tip of my tongue.

I pass you a cup and you grab it to smash it against the wall.

It leaves a lovely pattern there.

After you wander home, i study it by candle light.

You’ll never know your impact upon me.

You are a terrible teacher and a cruel mother.

I learn much from you and honor you in quiet moments.
